Juvinile Court Book Club

tutor

The Juvenile Court Book Club, Inc. (JCBC) operates a one-on-one volunteer-to-student tutoring program for youth residing in the detention facilities served by the JCBC who are in need of individual academic support.

We are currently seeking tutors for the Girls Rehabilitation Facility (GRF).

Volunteers are welcome to tutor students in Language Arts (English) and Math. We work with students weekdays from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

Weekday, evening and weekend tutoring sessions are available.

Two kinds of volunteers are needed; those who can commit to one, two-hour session per week and those who can commit regularly from one to two sessions a month.

Our goal is to ensure that we have at least one volunteer available Mondays through Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Tutors are part of the JCBC program, but also fall under the Volunteers in Probation (VIP) program affiliated with the county's Probation Department. This means that tutors will undergo a background check and are asked to complete an orientation program that provides guidelines for protecting the confidentiality and for working closely with those in detention.

All JCBC volunteers must complete the form for the background check to be admitted into Juvenile facilities.
Please contact Bobbie Kunath for the forms and return them to her. The only exceptions are current or former county employees or judicial officers (who already have background checks on record). This is based on a new Probation Department policy. We greatly appreciate our volunteers and we anticipate your kind cooperation

You do not need a teaching background in order to be a tutor.
